fertilize your roses now for blooms like this all fall-Thanks To Lynn Harper for sharing her rose garden with us!

• Fertilize your winter lawn if you’ve mowed it twice-it is important to keep it green going into cool weather as yellowing can be hard to correct when soil temperatures are cold
• we continue to see caterpillar damage on yellow and orange bells, bougainvilleas, vegetable gardens, almost everywhere! Thuricide, dipel, spinosad, sevin, …..use the remedy you’re most comfortable with
• Plant and or force “papperwhite” narcissus, amaryllis and other bulbs for Christmas color
• Seed potatoes should be arriving this weekend, fall is the time to plant them in the desert!
• Continue to plant leafy and root crop vegetables for late winter and spring harvest
• keep you winter vegetables and flowers well fertilized and growing fast
• plant winter color for curb appeal and holiday visitors-Geraniums, petunias,pansies,snaps,stock……Remember it is really “spring” to us!
• We get a lot of calls about “wave” petunias this time of year, especially from folks who are here from the Midwest. Wave petunias are a great “summertime” petunia for those of you who are from the cool country because the are day length sensitive for blooming. In other words they need 10.5 to 12 hours of sunlight per day to perform. It will be the 1st of March now before we receive that amount of sun. We recommend using other types of petunias for winter blooming.
• Still a great time to plant Citrus-consider dwarf trees-they’re perfect sized for most back yards. We get more  calls about how to prune citrus than almost any other topic. Citrus don’t like to be pruned and if your tree doesn’t get too big you won’t need to prune it!!
• fertilize roses -they can be at they’re best the next two months!
• This is a great time to apply preemergent herbicides to prevent late winter and spring weeds
• Plant wildflower seeds and sweet pea seeds now for spring color!
